At the WHWMF we seek to help those who have answered the call to serve in their communities.

Who We Support

While our focus has been to give aid to the very wildland firefighting community Billy was proud to be a part of, we also look to help in other first-responder, and fire-rescue groups. Many groups we have come to know over the last two years are either volunteer based or operate on very small budgets. In many cases, the responder must supply most, if not all, of their own gear to perform the duties of their position. When funds run low, they look to the communities they serve to support them with fundraisers and annual giving campaigns.

Please see below for information on some of the groups we support.

Yarnell Fire District

The Purpose of the Yarnell Fire District is to provide protection of life and property to the residents of Yarnell, Arizona and the surrounding communities. The scope of this protection includes fire, rescue, emergency medical service and general assistance to citizens within the community, other fire departments, law enforcement and public service agencies.

Yarnell Fire District Memorial Run

The WHWMF annually supports the Yarnell Fire District and their Memorial Run. The WHWMF presented a check for $5000.00 to the RMRU towards a new rescue vehicle.

Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit

The Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit is a group of volunteers trained and ready to respond to wilderness emergencies. At any hour of the day, law enforcement agencies, national park, or military officials may call upon the unit to aid someone in need. The unit is on constant alert to search for and help in the rescue of hikers, skiers, rock climbers and outdoorsmen whenever and wherever tragedy strikes. The unit performs about 95% of its missions in Southern California, however, it has traveled south into Mexico, north into the High Sierras and into Nevada to complete lifesaving missions.
